So when you live way out in boonies, you will have a lot of windshield time.  Driving one hour plus one-way is very common commute time.  That is pretty often the case in urban settings too, just the distance is considerably shorter.  Urbanites get hung up with congestion and traffic lights every quarter mile.  For us in the backcountry, its considerably less populated, but will drive 50-100 miles one-way easily!  But then you get nice views and a radio station to pass the time.

Closer to home, it looks more like this.

A nice fuel efficient vehicle would be great for those paved roads, but for back here, on these hills? NO! Two wheel drive will just tear up the gravel road.  In order for a two wheel drive to work back here, all the inclines need to be solid surface, paved.  That takes money, and road building is really, really expensive.  Even for short distances.

This is why we have a Jeep!! It will get you from Point A to Point B reliably, pretty much no matter what the weather or road conditions are.  So, at the end of the day, all your errands are done, but you haven’t been able to accomplish much else.  This is part of what it means to have a slower paced life.
